Meet Julie: The Heart of Our Volunteer Community

Julie Murray first became part of the Shining Stars family in 2014, after her young son, Matt, was diagnosed with cancer. Julie and Matt attended Family Camp and experienced firsthand the hope, connection, and joy these programs can bring during an incredibly difficult time.

Today, Matt is cancer-free and thriving as a young adult. Fortunately for us, Julie never left the Shining Stars family!

For more than a decade, Julie has been one of our most dedicated volunteers, helping at approximately 7 events each year and generously contributing hundreds of hours of her time. From Denver family events to Family Camp in the mountains, Julie shows up wherever she is needed with positivity, kindness, and an incredible willingness to help. She truly is the backbone of our volunteer community.

Her generosity extends far beyond Shining Stars. Julie also dedicates her time to organizations including HopeKids and Winding River Ranch, continually finding ways to support children and families affected by cancer.

Julie’s remarkable story began long before she joined Shining Stars. In the news feature linked below, she shares the harrowing journey she experienced as a refugee coming to the United States from Vietnam. Her courage, resilience, and unwavering positivity are woven into everything she does and everyone she helps.

Julie, you are truly a hero. We are endlessly grateful that you continue to share your heart, your time, and your joyful spirit with the Shining Stars family.
