Dragon Boat Races

The first ever Dragon Boat Races for Shining Stars and their families took place at Lake Arbor Pavilion in
Arvada on Saturday, September 9. Six teams composed of Stars, family members, and volunteers raced
rapidly on Lake Arbor assisted by professional racers under the direction of Captain Bligh (Michael
Boyd) . The Shining Stars and the Pink Phantoms (a team of breast cancer survivors) partnered for this fun event
and everyone had a great time. The Pink Phantom Breast Cancer Survivors is a program of the Dragon
Boat Racing Association of Colorado. Even the very youngest Stars and siblings were treated to a dragon
boat ride. Generous donations of food and drinks were provided by Silver Mine Subs, Swire Coca Cola,
and the Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis Foundation. Many thanks to all of the Shining Stars volunteers and the Pink
Phantoms volunteers for their time and expertise. Both the Shining Stars Foundation and the Pink
Phantoms are funded by grant money from the Cancer League of Colorado.

Staff Member Cookie Ready, Volunteer Nicolena Johnson,  and Shining Star Ambassador Kat Tanke
greeted Stars and their families at the Adams County Fairgrounds for the 2017 Miracle Party for cancer
survivors, patients, angels, and their families on Saturday night, September 16. Many new contacts
were made for new families that we hope to serve in the future. The theme for this year was
masquerade. Click here to see more photos from the fun event!

Miller Farms Fall Festival

Our families enjoyed a fun-filled day exploring Miller Farms and picking delicious produce to take home! Our Shining Stars hopped on a hay ride, harvested yummy veggies, explored a corn maze, and more! We are so grateful to our wonderful friends at Miller Farms for hosting this event each year.

Young Adult Mentorship Program

We are thrilled to introduce our newest program, the Young Adult Mentorship Program! This program was launched in the fall of 2017 with the goal of helping young adult pediatric cancer survivors access the resources they need to thrive. The objective of this program is to match these young adults with mentors who are dedicated to helping them become successful and independent individuals. Are you interested in becoming a mentor, or know someone who is? Please email for more information.
