MILLER FARMS FALL FESTIVAL
Nearly 100 Shining Stars, siblings and parents joined us at Miller Farms in Platteville, CO for a day of veggie pickin' in the sunshine. Shining Stars kids and families got a chance to reconnect and catch up, all while harvesting loads and loads of fresh, healthy, FREE produce to take home. Thank you to Miller Farms for hosting us and providing a bountiful harvest for our Shining Stars Families.
Miller Farms has hosted this event for Shining Stars Foundation for over 10 years! If you have never been to Miller Farms, a family-owned farm in Platteville, Colorado, it’s a Colorado must-do! Fresh produce from the farm is also sold throughout the summer at the Farmer’s Markets in Arvada, Boulder, Silverthorne and MORE! Visit www.MillerFarms.net for more information.
Dragon boat races
On September 22, the 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Races were held at beautiful Lake Arbor Park in Arvada. Michael Boyd, better known as Captain Bligh, is the president/founder of the Dragon Boat Racing Association of Colorado, the Captain and Head Coach of the Phantom Dragons competitive dragon boat racing team, and the Pink Phantoms crew for breast cancer survivors. Michael and his crew of volunteers hosted the races for Shining Stars families. A delicious picnic lunch was provided by Bruce Williams, owner of Silver Mine Subs. Four teams shared two dragon boats, complete with adaptive seats! Captain Bligh even crafted a custom dock to allow each and every Shining Star to access the races. The event was tons of fun on a gorgeous Colorado day!
Round 1 of the Shining Stars Foundation Mentorship Program kicked off earlier this year, and we’ve been having a blast ever since! Six young adult pediatric cancer survivors were matched with mentors in the local community, and since then, mentors and mentees have had the chance to participate in a number of fun and therapeutic activities, including:
…and so much more! We can’t wait to watch as these young adult pediatric cancer survivors continue to move past just surviving to truly thriving with the support of their awesome mentors!
Jungle Adventures , the 11th Annual Miracle Party for childhood cancer and blood disorder patients and their families was held on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The gala event offers community support, hope and compassion during difficult times. Many Shining Stars and families attended and enjoyed a BBQ dinner, band, DJ, dancing, bounce castles, limo rides, a special angel tribute, photo booth, games, face-painting, crafts, surprise performers and more! Shining Stars volunteers, Nicolena , Kat, and Cookie, greeted old friends and gave information about our programs to new friends. Approximately 400-500 people and over 180 volunteers attended this gala event.
In the past month, we have offered Shining Stars families tickets to the Ballet Ariel and the Westernaires Horsecapades.
Thanks to our partnership with Kroenke Sports, we also hosted families at Denver Nuggets basketball games and a Colorado Avalanche game!
