Our Story

The Shining Stars Foundation was founded in 2001 by a group of dedicated and experienced volunteers who saw an unmet need in the Rocky Mountains for a program that would provide emotional support to children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses through adventure and recreational programs. Originally focused on providing an adaptive ski experience through the Aspen Winter Games Program, the Foundation has grown to provide five key programs and over 60 events each year. We love thinking of new and creative ways to improve the lives of the families we serve and are constantly evolving.

At first serving only a handful of children from Colorado, the Foundation has now reached thousands of individuals through our children, family, and awareness programs. The Foundation continues to grow each year, expanding its geographic reach, offering more services, and helping more families in need.

I went home after the week feeling like I was able and willing to face the challenges of the world in my own way. Shining Stars Winter Games showed me the tip of the iceberg of something I had forgotten: living!
