Aspen Winter Games Week

The annual “Shining Stars Winter Games” is the Foundation’s largest and most intensive week long camp. We believe that this event is one of the most unique, one of a kind, and beneficial camps offered in the country today for critically ill children and young adults.  Working in partnership with oncology hospitals, the medical community, specially trained adaptive recreation and community volunteers, the Foundation strives to make this week one that the child will never forget.  Our greatest tribute is when the participants tell us they actually “forgot they had cancer for the week!” 

Doctors, nurses, and social workers refer children to us who are between the ages of 8-18 years old and who can most benefit from this program from a physical, psychological, and emotional standpoint.  Currently this outdoor recreation week is hosted at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado.  Activities that take place during the week include: ski/snowboard lessons, snowmobiling, snow sculpting activities, campfire cookouts, swimming, disco dancing,  team building workshops, karaoke  contests, craft classes, stretching sessions, shopping and dining out in downtown Aspen. All activities are designed with the children's health and unique needs in mind, and a medical support team is available at all times. Each child is also assigned a "buddy," a local resident who is available to answer questions and provide daily support.  

The Winter Games is a one-time event that is offered free of charge to participants.

The 2011 Winter Games will take place March 18 - 25.
